Prayagraj: Newly elected mayor of
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Umesh Chandra Ganesh Kesarwani, who defeated his nearest rival of
Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Ajay Kumar Srivastava by a margin of 1,29,386 votes in the urban local body polls declared on Saturday, credited his victory to hard work of party workers and BJP led union and state government run public welfare policies.
He also thanked senior party leadership for putting trust on him.
Kesarwani said, “I will take overall development of the Sangam City on priority basis ahead of Kumbh 2025. Once the people of city give mandate to triple engine government, the pace of the development will be more high. I want to thank the voters of Prayagraj as the urban local body polls made it clear that there is a saffron wave across the country”.
He also claimed that BJP will form government third time at the centre under the leadership of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi.
BJP’s Kesarwani got a total over 2.35 lakh votes while his nearest arch rival Ajay Kumar Srivastava of Samajwadi Party (SP) received 1.06 lakh voters only.
Kesarwani started his political career as an ordinary party worker in 1987. He also participated in Ram Janambhoomi movement in 1989 and also worked on different posts including booth president, ward president, mandal vice president, mandal general secretary, and mandal convener. He also held the posts of BJP mahanagar vice president, general secretary etc. He became corporator from Krishna Nagar ward in 2012 and raised his voice against increased house tax. He also played an active role to start Vande Matram in nagar nigam sadan meet. Kesarwani was appointed Mahanagar president of BJP in 2019.

Ashish Gupta claimed, “The triumph of BJP in all 17 municipal corporation have made it clear that the BJP wave was underway in the leadership of prime minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath”.
