Udhagamandalam: A tourist from Erode district was electrocuted, when the van in which he was travelling, came in contact with a live wire in Coonoor on Saturday.
Police identified the victim as Thirunavukarasu, 40, of Kaundhampadi. “Ten people from Erode district had come to Coonoor in a van to spend holidays. While entering the guest house premises, the vehicle came in contact with a live wire. Thirunavukarasu was thrown out of the vehicle and died on the spot,” a police officer said.
Two people, who attempted to save him, sustained serious injuries. They were sent to the Coonoor Government Hospital.
The Upper Coonoor police registered a case. An investigation involving revenue department and TNEB officials is under way.
