Getting FOMO because you don’t have a VR headset? The technology has really broken into the mainstream recently, with cheap headsets popping up from a variety of companies. HP’s Reverb G2 VR headset is on sale this weekend. It’s down to only $449 after a $150 discount. If you needed an extra incentive to finally buy one, this could be it. Read more about it below, then head to HP and grab one before the sale ends.

Why you should buy the HP Reverb G2 V2

What really makes the HP Reverb G2 V2 stand out is the visual clarity for the price. While it won’t beat out something like the Valve Index in resolution, the Reverb manages a very impressive 2160 x 2160 resolution panel per eye, meaning that it even beats out something like the Quest 2’s 1832×1920 per eye. The V2 also brings in a lot more cameras for tracking, which is very obvious given the wider tracking field that reaches just below your waistline and about eye level. Again, it won’t beat something like the Index with its base stations, but it’s impressive for something that will cost you less than $500. That said, you will miss out on stuff like full-body tracking, which might be important for VR chat.

Another important thing for VR chat and other social apps is having capacitive touch on the controllers, which the Revervb G2 V2 sadly does not. That also means you’ll have to remap a lot of games since most of them expect your VR headset to have it. That said, if you don’t do a lot of social VR chatting or just want an excellent headset for playing PC VR games, then you aren’t losing much, and luckily, tracking accuracy is excellent. One thing to note is that this isn’t a self-contained headset like the Quest 2, so you will need a considerably hefty desktop computer, likely something with an RTX 3080 or better. However, you can still get by with less powerful stuff if you don’t mind running the Reverb at its full potential.

Picking a good VR headset can be difficult, especially since the tech is still relatively nascent and is all about compromises with hefty price tags. Even so, the Reverb G2 V2 offers the best clarity for the $449 price tag you can get on HP’s website. While you’re at it, it’s worth taking a look at some great gaming PC deals to go with your Reverb G2 V2, and if you decide to go for the Quest 2, maybe take a look at our dive into the Meta Quest 3 vs. the Meta Quest 2, and whether it’s worth waiting for the former.

This deal gets you a 14-inch HP Chromebook for $45 (seriously)
chromebook deals HP 14 G4

Chromebook deals are generally less expensive than laptop deals for Windows-based devices, but you probably didn't think they can go below $50. Amazon's Woot is turning heads with this offer for a refurbished HP Chromebook 14 G4 for only $45, for $155 in savings on its sticker price of $200. It's not for everyone, but if you manage your expectations, you wouldn't want to miss this chance to get this Chromebook for very cheap.

Why you should buy the HP Chromebook 14 G4
Let's be clear -- the HP Chromebook 14 G4 won't be matching up to the best laptops, nor to the best Chromebooks. However, it's enough if you're only planning to use the device for basic functions like browsing the internet, typing documents, and checking social media. The Chromebook could also serve as an excellent starter laptop for children. It may look very slow on paper with its Intel Celeron N2840 processor, integrated Intel HD Graphics, and 4GB of RAM, but the device actually provides decent performance because of Google's Chrome OS. The operating system utilizes web-based apps instead of installed software, resulting in quick startups despite low-end components. The HP Chromebook 14 G4 is no longer receiving automatic Chrome OS updates though, so you'll need to follow the best practices to protect yourself from hackers.

Flash deal drops the price of this HP gaming laptop to $650
The front of the HP Victus 16 with its lid open.

HP has come a long way in the past few years when it comes to making gaming laptops, and the latest iteration in their arsenal, the HP Victus 16, is a great example of that. While you can grab it from HP's website for just $650, rather than the usual $1,000, it's worth spending a little bit of that discount for a couple of upgrades here and there.

Why you should buy the HP Victus 16 gaming laptop
The beating heart of any gaming laptop is its GPU, and the HP Victus 16 comes with an RTX 3050 at base spec, a pretty good entry-level GPU that will let you play most modern free-to-play games and some AAA games. That said, it's absolutely worth upgrading to the RTX 3050 Ti for an extra $50 since it will give you a nice little bump in performance and more power to work with. As for the CPU, you get the excellent AMD Ryzen 5 6600H, which won't bottleneck you and let you play most CPU-intense games and do things such as streaming or editing work. You can also upgrade the CPU to an AMD Ryzen 7 6800H for an extra $120, but it's not worth it, especially since upgrading both the CPU and GPU would cost you a significant $250.
As for RAM, you get 8GBs of DDR5 memory, which is the fastest RAM on the market, but we'd encourage you to upgrade to 16GBs for an extra $80; it will add a massive quality of life improvement. Storage is similarly on the lower end at 256GBs, and an upgrade there is also warranted, at least the 512GB for $60, although you could always spring for one of these external hard drive deals instead. Finally, we'd be remiss, not to mention the massive 16.1-inch screen that runs at FHD and, in this case, is worth upgrading to the 144Hz refresh rate, 7ms response time, and 300nit beak brightness version for $60.
