William Morris was shot, killed on Jan. 2 in Utica. Now two people face charges

Two teenagers from Utica have been charged in the Jan. 2 shooting death of William Morris on the 1200 Block of Seymour Avenue in Utica, the Utica Police Department said Friday in a statement.

A light green minivan fled the scene driving erratically that night, police said. After a pursuit, the vehicle stopped on the 1100 block of Seymour Avenue and three people fled on foot. One was taken into custody and a loaded 9mm handgun found.

Abdulkadir Ali, 19, of Utica, was taken into custody after the chase and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.

On Friday, Ali was also charged with second-degree murder.

Issa Ali, 19, who police said was the driver of the minivan, was charged Friday with second-degree murder.

Morris and another person were shot after 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 2. Morris, who was shot in the head, died from his injuries. The other victim, who police did not name, was shot in the abdomen and listed in critical condition at the time of the shooting. Police did not release any further update on the victim's condition Friday.
