NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has recorded the statement of Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and assistant secretary Vinod Tomar. It has also formed a special investigation team under a DCP to probe the sexual harassment charges against Singh brought by seven female wrestlers.
Police have also sought some documents and details from Bhushan and he is likely to be questioned again. The statement of another wrestler was also recorded under Section 164 of the CrPc.
Last week, Bhushan was questioned for 3-4 hours during which he denied the allegations levelled against him. Both Bhushan and Tomar were questioned twice.
The SIT, Delhi Police told a court in its status report, has 10 people and includes four female police officers. It’s led by a woman DCP.
The court directed that the statements of the rest of the complainants be recorded.
Additional public prosecutor Atul Shrivastava requested that the status report not be shared with anyone as it could hinder the ongoing investigation.
Advocate S S Hooda, appearing for the complainants, opposed the submission of the APP and sought a copy of the status report.
He also accused Delhi Police of trying to violate the rights of the complainants by saying that the report should not be shared. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled on May 27.
The wrestlers, in their plea before the court, have requested a court-monitored investigation. They also requested recording of the statement of victims before the court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which authorises a magistrate to record statements.
