Around 50 people from Australia and 13 countries travelled to Sydney initially for a one-day forum, then onto cotton farms, gins, and research facilities at Boggabri, Narrabri, and Wee Waa in order to gain an understanding of environmental and quality issues from local farmers.

Brand representatives from Uniqlo, Stella McCartney, Cotton On Group, Lacoste, Adidas, and Country Road were among those who highlighted the benefits of attending the three-day event including the cotton forum in Sydney where speakers presented and answered questions on all key issues including water efficiency, soil health, biodiversity, data, circularity, and human rights, Cotton Australia said in a press release.

Sarah Forde from Modibodi said her organisation would now consider sourcing top quality Australian cotton after attending the event and touring farms.

The Australian Cotton Tour, which took place from May 2-5, 2023, was made possible through the federal government’s Agricultural Trade and Market Access Cooperation (ATMAC) programme, which aims to increase trade diversification and expansion opportunities to access new markets for Australia’s agricultural commodities.
