UP Municipal Election Result 2023 Live Updates: BJP wins Ayodhya mayoral poll, ahead on 15 other seats, BSP leading in Agra

Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIAMIM on Saturday made a debut in Ayodhya Municipal Corporation as Waris Ali of from the party won from Agrasen Ward.

Ganesh Kesharwani of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) takes a decisive lead in Prayagraj mayoral post election. Kesharwani leads by over 18,000 votes from the Samajwadi Party candidate Ajay Srivastava.

After eighth round of counting of votes for the Lucknow Municipal Corporation elections, BJP candidate Sushma Kharakwal has maintained her lead. She is leading with 71,643 votes.

Vandana Mishra of the SP is trailing with 38,957 votes. Congress candidate has received just 1,400 votes.

BJP candidate Pramila Pandey is leading by 34,769 votes. Congress candidate is trailing on second position and SP third.

BJP candidate Ganesh Kesarwani leads by over 13,000 votes in Prayagraj.

BJP's Archana Verma is leading with 16,955 votes after third round in Shahjahanpur

BJP's Umesh Gautam leading in Bareilly Mayoral post with 11,799 votes.

BJP's Abhinav alias Golu won from Ward 65 Pashupati Nagar by defeating independent candidate Laxmi Shankar Rajput. Abhinav got more than 4,000 votes, while Lakshmi Shankar, who once made himself and once his wife a corporator, secured only 180 votes.

The voters in Ayodhya had shown their apathy to the mayoral election as only 47.89% voting was recorded in the temple town.

ULB polls have also been crucial for the Congress, which is desperate for its revival in UP. The party fielded candidates on a seat-to-seat basis after factoring in its opponents.

In round 1 of counting, BJP's Pramila Pandey leading by 1,362 votes on Kanpur mayoral seat

Sushma Kharakwal has been president of the women's wing of the BJP in the Awadh region. She has been associated with the BJP for over 30 years, and is currently a member of the state executive committee of the BJP. Before being selected as a mayoral candidate, she was also a member of the Sainik Welfare Board, food and logistics advisory board, Bharat Sanchar Nigam and Rail Users' Consultative Committee.

Winning the city mayor seat will reflect not only the future course of that party but also its own state of affairs, so BJP has put all its strength into campaigning for it by engaging all its senior party leaders.

The Congress party is leading on Kanpur mayoral seat. The Congress candidates in the fray were left to their own means to seek votes as the party leadership apparently chose to focus on Karnataka assembly elections.

Focus would specially be on key seats including Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Lucknow. The newly constituted Shahjahanpur mayoral seat would also be under keen watch as all parties vie for it.

In 2017 ULB polls, BJP won 14 out of 16 mayoral seats, while two seats, Meerut and Aligarh, went to BSP. This time too, BJP fancies chances of sweeping the mayoral seats given its larger political acceptance in the urban areas.

BSP pitched in hard while recalibrating its poll strategy by playing the minority card - it fielded Muslims on 11 of 17 mayoral seats. Experts said the move was Mayawati's attempt to send out strong feelers to the minority community which has traditionally voted for the SP.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faces a resurgent Samajwadi Party, which has been positioning itself as the most potent rival of BJP. SP allied with Jayant Chaudhary's Rashtriya Lok Dal which contested only on NPP and NP seats.

For BJP, it's a matter of maintaining political dominance and it relied on the popularity of CM Yogi Adityanath - he addressed 50 public meetings in 13 days - along with its well-oiled organisational machinery and ideological fountainhead RSS.

This year's civic polls were held for 17 mayoral, 1,420 corporators, 199 chairperson of Nagar Palika Parishad (NPP), 5,327 NPP members, 544 of Nagar Panchayat (NP) chairperson and 7,178 NP member seats.

The mayoral candidates include Bhartiya Janata Party's Ashok Tiwari, Congress' Anil Srivastava, Samajwadi Party's Om Prakash Singh, Bahujan Samaj Party's Subhash Chandra Majhi, Aam Aadmi Party's Sharda Tandon, Apna Dal (Kameravadi) candidate Harish Mishra and Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party's Anand Tiwari, Independent candidates Omprakash Chaurasia, Deepak Lal Asthana, Virendra Kumar Gupta and Ramji Chaurasia and National Samaj Party's Shamsher Khan.

The counting of votes for mayor will take place at 50 tables while for the counting of votes of election for corporators of 100 wards will take place at one table for two wards. The candidates for corporator election will be allowed to send one counting agent. The mayoral candidates can deploy their one agent at each of 50 counting tables.

The results of the closely contested urban local body elections between the BJP and the opposition, primarily the Samajwadi Party, will start pouring in from Saturday morning and will be keenly watched by the parties and analysts since they were touted as the semi-final before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and fought on a much bigger scale this time.

The fate of 11 mayoral and 6,363 corporator candidates in Kashi's 100 wards will be decided on Saturday. The local administration has made all preparations for the counting of votes of the urban local body elections at the Pahadia Mandi and Rajatalab tehsil amid tight security bandobast. The polling was held on May 4.

The polls are considered important as political parties will try to showcase their strength before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh.

Shahjahanpur will elect its mayor for the first time this year as the city became a municipal corporation in 2018, a year after the last civil polls were held in Uttar Pradesh.

Over 5,458 representatives will be elected in the Uttar Pradesh municipal elections, including 198 chairpersons and 5,260 members of nagar palika parishads. These representatives will be responsible for the development and administration of the urban areas in the state.

In the Uttar Pradesh municipal elections, 19 corporators were elected unopposed. This is a reflection of the low voter turnout in the polls, which was only 53%.
