Mangaluru: The two-day Manipal Surgical Oncology Conference, being organised by the department of surgical oncology, Kasturba Medical College, was inaugurated in Manipal on Friday. More than 150 delegates and faculty members participated in this conference, who were mainly from various oncology disciplines from across India.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr Vijay Kumar M, VC, Yenepoya University. Lt Gen (Dr) MD Venkatesh, vice-chancellor, MAHE, and Dr Shailesh V Shrikande, deputy director, TATA Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, were present. In his inaugural address, Dr Vijay Kumar M, said that as per ICMR data, most of the cancer cases reporting to hospitals were in the third and fourth stages, and that it is challenging for doctors to manage such cases. Cancer is 100% curable if it is diagnosed and treated in the early stages. These types of workshops are very important to upgrade our knowledge, and are basically for young doctors. I congratulate the team for demonstrating and discussing live surgeries at the conference. tnn
