TIRUPATI: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) embarked on a first-of-its-kind initiative and cleared off 1,600 bags of garbage pile-up along the twin ghat roads and pedestrian routes at Tirumala on Saturday.
Nearly 1,000 personnel from the TTD, Tirupati district administration, municipal corporation and the district police wing took part in the mega cleanliness drive which lasted for more than six hours on Saturday.
Former Chief justice of India NV Ramana flagged off the Shuddh Tirumala-Sundara Tirumala cleanliness drive at Alipiri and later took part in the programme near the 7th mile Hanuman statue.
The cleanliness drive was simultaneously carried out along the twin ghat roads leading and exiting Tirumala as well as on the twin pedestrian routes leading to the hill town.
Former CJI appreciated the TTD for initiating such a novel programme and observed that it was the duty of every single devotee to preserve the sanctity of the sacred abode of Lord Venkateswara.
TTD EO AV Dharma Reddy said that the mass cleanliness drive was not a one-time programme and added that both the ghat roads and the pedestrian routes will be cleaned-up under the Shuddh Tirumala-Sundara Tirumala campaign once every month.
District collector K Venkata Ramana Reddy, SP P Parameswara Reddy, CVSO D Narasimha Kishore, FACAO O Balaji and others took part in the drive with their designated teams.
