NEW DELHI: Women voters' turnout exceeded that of male voters in six of
Karnataka's 34 districts and across 43 of its total 224 assembly constituencies, reports Bharti Jain. Even though the 72.7% statewide polling percentage among women in the 2023 assembly poll was lower than the 73.6% male voter turnout, it beat the 71.5% female voter turnout recorded in 2018 assembly elections.
The 2023 turnouts mentioned in this report are only based on votes cast on EVMs and do not take into account postal ballots or votes cast using the home voting facility.
A look at EC's constituency-wise turnout data shows that 72 of Karnataka's 224 assembly constituencies (ACs) also recorded a turnout lower than the state's average. Of these 72 low-turnout assembly segments, 28 or 39% are part of Bengaluru. The 28 ACs with turnouts lower than the 73.2% state's average are in urban districts like BBMP (Central), BBMP (North), BBMP (South) and Bangalore Urban, which recorded 55.5%, 52.6%, 52.3% and 63.2% turnouts respectively.
