THANE: The sessions court convicted and sentenced a 35-year-old man to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) for sexually assaulting his then 17-year-old sister-in-law. Special public prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale said special Judge (Pocso) V V Virkar also fined him Rs8,000.
Hiwrale said in April 2018, the girl who stays with her mother had gone to her sister’s place for a few days. While her sister was out for work, the accused assaulted and raped her.
The girl managed to escape from the house and went to a religious place. Later, a good samaritan took her to the police station and helped her file a complaint. As many as nine witnesses, including the girl, were examined to prove the case.
