Nagpur: CBSE X scores in Nagpur continued to stay above the 99% mark with Podar World School student Kavya Gupta scoring 99.6% while BVM Ashti’s Devansh Dhoka taking the second position with 99.4%. The third spot at 99% was shared between Aarohi Ukey (Narayana Vidyalayam), Aratrika Chakrabarty (Sandipani) and Sahil Soni (St. Paul). Last year, the city’s top score was 99.8%.
This year, gender gap was not so apparent with boys and girls having almost equal representation in the merit list. In 2022, there were six girls in the top seven rankings.
In Nagpur district, there are now almost 100 CBSE schools which means that the competition for the top rankings will keep getting tougher in future.
Students told TOI that the exam this year was of moderate level which got reflected in the scores. Pushpak Dhurve, a student of Std X, said, “Some problems in social science were quite lengthy and tough, though I was able to manage it. The questions were not so tricky. I practised the sample question papers a lot and a few questions were the same as them. For mathematics and science, a few high-level questions were there which needed some special techniques.”
Deevansh Jain, another student, said, “The level of exam was average as there were some papers which were a bit tough, but then there were some that were easy. Overall, it was well balanced.”
Another student, Aayu Agrawal, said, “The exam was easy with English and Hindi being the easiest. But the language papers were lengthy, which could have impacted the marks but I still was able to manage it.”
Another student of Std X, Purab Bakhru, said. “I personally felt that this year exams were tough. I particularly faced difficulties in the science and social studies papers. The languages were comparatively easy this year.”
Student Parth Doifode said, “The exam was as expected, not that difficult. Mathematics and science were in particular difficult but overall the paper was mediocre in terms of difficulty.”
Principals, who prefer to not be quoted when speaking about CBSE, said that overall the results were a reflection of the exam level. “It’s not only the exam level but also how the marks are distributed. You have internal assessments which also add up to the final total. Hence if you look at the whole thing, then it becomes clear that the exams were on the moderate side,” said the principal.
The entire Std X exam was conducted in the span of 36 days. CBSE also conducted a webinar for over 1 lakh teachers from different parts of the country and abroad. CBSE also ended up spending money during the board exams, especially for Covid-19 related safety measures for students.
