Manipur violence: Death toll reaches 71; Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh gives status brief

Briefing on the situation of the violence-hit Manipur, state Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh on May 12 in Imphal informed that the death toll reached 71 amid the mayhem. Saying that the situation is gradually returning to normal, Singh also informed about the decreasing number of people taking shelter in the relief camps as the administration is now transporting them back. “Situation has improved in Manipur. People have also been transported from the relive camps and the number of people left there is low now. Death figure is now approximately 71. Yesterday there was an exchange of fire between Manipur Commandos and militants. Six Commandos got injured and one of them got martyred,” Singh said. Manipur was hit with internal clash leading to deadly chaos on May 03 during a march that was held by the All Tribal Student Union Manipur against Metei community demanding for ST status. The violence that followed the clash, caused heavy property damage in the state along with loss of lives. The state not also faced beefed up security deployment but also lack of internet services.
