LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh remained one of the low-performing states in both classes 10 and 12 in academic session 2022-23. A state-wise analysis shows UP saw a dip of 6.85% in the pass percentage in the class 12 results - from 86.08% in 2022 to 79.23% in 2023. In class 10, UP, with a pass percentage of 92.4, witnessed a decline of 2.6% from the last year.
Gender-wise, the results showed that girls performed better than boys in both classes 10 and 12. While 84.9% girls cleared class 12 exams as against 75.4% boys, in class 10, 94.29% girls were promoted as against 91.13% boys.
The 2023 examinations were conducted after a gap of three years in a normal and well planned manner.
With 79.23%, UP had the least percentage of students, after Chhattisgarh (76.91%), and Arunachal Pradesh (66.10%) clearing the class 12 exam. At 92.4% in class 10, UP surpassed Delhi (88.6%) but trailed Bihar (94.6%) in terms of students passing the exam.
Kerala in class 12 and class 10 was the top performing state with a success rate of 99.1% in 2023 CBSE exams.
As per the earlier decision of the Board to avoid unhealthy competition among the students, no merit list is declared by the CBSE. Also, the Board is not awarding first, second or third divisions to its students, stated a press release issued by CBSE controller of examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj.
Statistics shared by CBSE showed a total of 3.27 lakh students, including 1.98 lakh boys and 1.29 lakh girls, had registered for class 12 exams in UP. Of this, 3.23 lakh appeared, including 1.94 lakh boys and 1.28 lakh girls. A total of 2.55 lakh students, including 1.46 lakh boys and 1.09 lakh girls, cleared the class 12 exam from UP. Overall, the pass percentage in UP stood at 79.23%. The pass percentage for class 12 in 2021-22 session and 2020-21 session stood at 86.08% and 98.7%, respectively.
The state saw 3.89 lakh students, including 2.36 lakh boys and 1.53 lakh girls, register for class 10. Of this, 3.86 lakh, including 2.33 lakh boys and 1.52 lakh girls, appeared. As many as 3.56 lakh students, including 2.13 lakh boys and 1.43 lakh girls, were successful. Overall, the success rate in class 10 stood at 92.38%, as against 95% in the 2021-22 session, and 99% in 2020-21 session.
