On Friday, Somesh Kumar, a former chief secretary, started serving as K Chandrashekhar Rao's chief advisor. Priests conducted a pooja in the chambers before Somesh Kumar sat down on his chair in his office on the sixth level of the Secretariat. On his first day in office, he was welcomed by Secretariat officials and employees as well.

On his first day in office, he was welcomed by secretariat officials and employees as well. He thanked the chief minister for renewing his trust in him and providing him the chance to help the State.

Somesh Kumar was appointed the chief advisor by the chief minister on May 9 and will hold the position for three years. Chandrashekhar Rao named Somesh Kumar as the State's Chief Secretary in december 2019. He held the position for three years until resigning in january of this year and moving to andhra pradesh as instructed by the telangana High Court. He chose to voluntarily leave his position in february 2023.

The 1989-born official, who served as Telangana's sixth and longest-serving Chief Secretary, is credited for leading a number of the government of Chandrashekhar Rao's signature projects. He was sent to andhra pradesh by the Department of Personnel Training (DOPT) following the state's split, but as ordered by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), he remained with the government of Telangana.
