A day after Supreme Court verdict, Uddhav Thackeray challenges Eknath Shinde-BJP to face fresh elections

Thackeray demanded that as he resigned last year after the rebellion by Shinde along other MLAs, the chief minister should also resign on the moral grounds.

A day after Supreme Court ruled out its verdict that went favorable for the incumbent Eknath Shinde government in Maharashtra to remain in power, former state’s chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday has challenged Shinde and his alliance partner to face fresh elections in the state.

After the verdict that was upsetting for his faction, Thackeray while addressing a press conference dared the current CM Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis to come and fresh elections and letting the people take a final decision.

Thackeray demanded that as he resigned last year after the rebellion by Shinde along other MLAs, the chief minister should also resign on the moral grounds.

Thackeray also dared that as earlier they approached Supreme Court, if they find inaction by the speaker within stipulated timeframe then again they will knock the doors of the apex court.

He added that the speaker is now travelling abroad and will wait for his return, and once he returns back he must take a decision soon.

Thackeray also sent a message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying a nanga naach is happening in the country and that he must intervene to stop that.

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled it cannot disqualify Shinde and other rebel MLAs for defecting against then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in June last year that brought down his government.

The  power now rests with the speaker of the Maharashtra state legislative assembly  until a larger panel of judges rules on it.

Thackeray also demanded for an action against Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, who was the Governor of Maharashtra during all this episode happened in June last year.

The Supreme Court in its ruling said yesterday that the Governor had no bright to call for a trust vote in the assembly, it was to be move by the other faction.

Trinamool Congress(TMC) Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra on Friday mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio broadcast Mann Ki Baat, labelling it as monkey baat.

Moitra tweeted that she has never listened to monkey baat, not even once and asked whether she would also be punished for not listening to it and will she be proscribed to step out of her home for a week.

The Trinamool MP took a dig over the recent incident that took place at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh (PGIMER), where 36 nursing students were denied leaving the hostel for their absence in the program organized for listening to PM Modi’s Maan Ki Baat.

The students were forbidden to leave the hostel for a week after they were unable to explain the reason for their absence.

On April 30, on the occasion of the celebration of the 100th episode of Maan Ki Baat of the Prime Minister, the PGIMER administration issued a written circular in which all the nursing students of the institute were asked to be present and listen to the broadcast, reports said.

However, 36 students did not attend the program and when asked, they could not give the reason after the authorities of the institute ordered them to not leave the hostel for a week. After the news came out, PGIMER, defending itself, said that the decision to make the students attend the event compulsory was taken as a part of their regular curricular activities.

It added that to provide value base education guests from outside and experts on subject matters are regularly invited to the campus to deliver speeches and discuss with the students.

A similar case was reported from Uttarakhand’s Dehradun where a student of a private school was reportedly fined Rs 100 for his absence in listening to PM’s Maan ki Baat.

With just a day ahead counting of the votes of the Karnataka state assembly elections Janata Dal Secular (JD(S)) party has hinted on the alliance decision, saying it has already been taken and will be announced when the right time comes.

On Thursday, senior JD(S) leader Tanveer Ahmed told to a media channel on the question of alliance that the decision has been taken already and it will be announced to the public when the right time comes.

This comes at a time when on Wednesday exit polls predicted a hung assembly in Karnataka, which signaled that post results either BJP or Congress will have to partner with JD(S) to form the government with majority.

Tanveer Ahmed added that both the BJP and Congress have tried contacting their party for an alliance government and said, the JD(S) is now at such a position that parties would definitely have to reach out to them to form the government, as most of the exit polls predicted JD(S) winning about 20-25 seats.

The JD(S) leader added the people of Karnataka want them as a regional party to keep check on both BJP and Congress for the state’s development and also said there is no such reason that prevents them from working for the development.

On the question of their favorable choice of party for partnership,  Ahmed replied, they will choose the party that is going to work for the betterment of Karnataka and its people.

Ahmed concluded saying that without JD(S) on board, no party can form a majority government and said that as they did not had the resources and muscle power as a national party, they stood weak but were sure that they would be definitely in a position to be a part of the government.

The BJP in the meanwhile, has denied of any contact to the regional party, saying the question of coalition does not arise at all and exuded confidence of returning back to power with a clear mandate.

Reports claim, HD Kumaraswamy who was seen highly active campaigning for his party’s victory across the state is now in Singapore for a medical visit and will be back tomorrow.

Former president of the Janata Dal (United) RCP Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in Delhi today in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Singh after accepting his membership in the BJP slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and alleged him of having the latter’s hand in crime and corruption in order to be in power.

Once a crony of Kumar, Singh’s ties with him seemed dwindling last year, when talks of Singh’s friendship with BJP hovered around, post which differences between both the leaders were seen and later JD(U) expelled Singh from the party.

The former JD(U) leader taking a swipe at his former mentor said that the Bihar CM in the pursuit of his post has compromised with his stand against crime and corruption. Singh added, that Kumar has been left with nothing in Bihar and mocked him saying he is a palti maar.

The new entrant in the BJP also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership and contribution towards up-liftment of the poor.

RCP Singh is a former bureaucrat of the Uttar Pradesh cadre who had worked under CM Kumar while he was an Union Minister. Kumar was the one who brought Singh into politics.

The former bureaucrat also served as the Union Minister of Steel in the Modi government, when JD(U) was a part of the National Democratic Alliance(NDA).

Singh had to resign after the party did not provide him the Rajya Sabha membership for a fresh term last year.

The former cabinet minister also targeted Kumar for his recent efforts to forge an united opposition alliance. He said that Kumar who has been elected to power for the state’s development is busy travelling one state to another.

Bihar CM Kumar is on a move to unite the opposition against the ruling BJP in the polls ahead next year, he has been meeting leaders of various opposition parties since almost a month when he first held a meeting with Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi in Delhi and later with Arvind Kejriwal.

Kumar today has met with former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in his residence in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Pradhan who welcomed Singh into the party lauded the latter for his role in strengthening the JD(U) and claimed that Singh ranks as one of the most affectionate leaders among the extremely backward sections of the society.
