Maruti Suzuki has begun the series production of the Jimny compact off-roader at its production facility in Gurugram. The carmaker has rolled out the first-ever unit of the series production of the Jimny, which is in a shade of Pearl Arctic White. The series production of the Jimny Five-door has started, as the launch date of the Jimny in the first half of June 2023 is nearing.

This is not the first time that the Jimny has entered into series production in India. Maruti Suzuki has already been making the three-door version of the Jimny in India for export markets since 2020. However, it is the first time that the five-door version of the Jimny has entered into series production.

Before starting the series production of the Jimny, Maruti Suzuki showcased it for the first time at the Auto Expo 2023. The carmaker also opened the bookings for the compact off-roader at the time of unveiling almost four months ago, at a token amount of Rs 25,000. Maruti Suzuki also gave prospective buyers a glimpse of Jimny at a larger scale by showcasing it at its various authorized dealer outlets of NEXA across India.

The five-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be the second product from Maruti Suzuki this year, as the carmaker recently launched the Fronx sub-four-metre compact SUV a few days ago. Like the Fronx, the new five-door Jimny will be sold through the NEXA chain of premium outlets.

The Jimny which is all set to enter the Indian market is the fourth-generation version of the off-roader and is the first version of the Jimny to have a more practical five-door layout. It should be noted that Maruti Suzuki sold the second-generation Jimny in India by renaming it and selling it as Maruti Suzuki Gypsy.

Powered only by petrol engine

Like most of the other premium offerings from Maruti Suzuki, the new Jimny will be powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. However, unlike the current crop of Maruti Suzuki’s premium offerings, which are powered by a new-generation K15C Dualjet petrol engine, the Jimny continues with the previous-generation K15B petrol engine. This engine produces 105 PS of maximum power and 138 Nm of maximum torque and will be offered with 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission options.

Once launched, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be sold in two variants – Zeta and Alpha, both of which will be available with both manual and automatic gearbox options. For now, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny will come in as a more affordable and smaller alternative to other off-roaders like Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
