The first ever Mudassachem Fest celebrating the millets, mangoes and music will be held on May 14 from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival is curated by Festakar Marius Fernandes and Gwendolyn De Ornelas and will be organised by the Goa College of Agriculture, Ela, Old Goa.

Millets, once a staple diet of traditional Indian cooking, has been making a slow comeback in India and across the globe. To keep this momentum going, The United Nations has declared 2023 as The International Year of Millets, supported by India and the Government of Goa.

Besides millets, there will be a celebration of mangoes of Goa with a variety of mangoes for sale including grafted mangoes. At 11a.m. there will be a mango orchard walk. Besides this there will be Goan food stalls, grafting workshops and Konkani cultural programmes with ghumots, kottieos, and guitars.

Festakar Marius Fernandes says that it is a great opportunity for the young students of the agricultural college to promote millets, mangoes, and other farming related activities and showcase their farming skills. Principal of Goa College of Agriculture Suresh Kunkaikar added that the essence of the festival is to promote the nutritional and ecological value of millets, and for the new generation to appreciate millets and mangoes in our diets.
