CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation has imposed a total fine of Rs Rs 42.6 lakh on eight contractors who did not relay roads even five days after milling them.
In a review meeting, additional chief secretary for municipal administration and water supply department Shiv Das Meena said contractors should maintain the pace of relaying roads post milling and must ensure safety for commuters.
The fine was imposed on contractors including those who delayed relaying of roads on P V Salyani 8th Street, 18th Street and 23rd Street in Tondiarpe and Desika Colony, Perambur Main Road, Abdul Raheem Street and Hyder Garden 4th Street in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar.
Contractors in Alandur, Adyar and Perungudi zones were also fined.
