Kanpur: In a shocking incident that took place in the Naubasta area of the city, a man first cut off his wife’s nose with a blade, then killed their minor daughter and hanged himself to death.
The man, identified as Chhotey Shah (36), a resident of Machhariya Baba Nagar, was a driver and had been working for Amauli’s District Panchayat member for the last several years. Shah lived on the third floor of the panchayat member’s newly-constructed house at Naubasta Gallamandi with his wife Rukhsar, daughter Arzoo (14) and two sons Arif and Aryan, police said.
Police investigated the case and recorded Rukhsar’s statement, which revealed that she and Chhotey had been living separately for last eight months. She also told police that her husband was suspicious of her character.
“She had come to Shah’s home only three days back and from the day she came, disputes began between the two. On Wednesday night, a fight broke between them following which, Chhotey, in a fit of rage, first cut off Rukhsar’s nose with a blade, then using a rope, strangled his daughter to death. After this, he hung himself,” a police official told TOI.
After seeing the bodies of her daughter and husband hanging on the noose, Rukhsar alerted neighbours, who in turn informed the police.
Senior police officials including DCP South Salman Taj Patil, ACP Naubasta Abhishek Pandey reached the spot along with a forensic team.
The police sent bodies of Shah and his daughter for autopsy and Rukhsar, who was bleeding profusely from her nose, was admitted to the hospital.
ACP Naubasta Abhishek Pandey, said, “Keeping all aspects in mind, we are investigating the case. Bodies have been shifted to the mortuary for postmortem, the injured woman is undergoing treatment at a city hospital.”
