Gaza Militants Fire Rockets Toward Jerusalem Area

JERUSALEM—Militants in Gaza fired rockets toward the Jerusalem area on Friday and Israel struck targets in the blockaded Palestinian enclave, as international efforts to reach a cease-fire and end four days of fighting stalled.

The rocket barrage set off air-raid sirens in Beitar Illit, an Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank 10 miles south of the contested city. It was the first time the Jerusalem area had been targeted since the escalation between Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a U.S.-designated terrorist group, began on Tuesday.
