VIJAYAWADA: A major Hindu religious ritual - Sudarshana sahitha Srilakshmi Maha Yagnam - was started amidst chants of hymns by the priests at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium in Vijayawada on Friday.
Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy attended the Yagnam and participated in several rituals. Endowments minister Kottu Satyanarayana, commissioner S Satyanarayana accompanied the chief minister to the Yagnam venue at the stadium.
Endowments department has planned the performance of Ashtothara Sata Kundatkama Chandi, Rudra, Raja Syamala, Sudarshana Sahitha Srilakshmi Maha Yagnam for the overall wellbeing of the state and people.
The endowments department made elaborate arrangements as thousands of devotees are expected to turn up to witness the six-day long yagnam.
The rituals commenced in the early hours with priest performing Veda Swasthi, Go puja, Vigneswara Viswaksena puja, Punyahavachanam.
The Yagnam was formally launched after the CM arrived at the venue. Priests guided the chief minister in taking up Yagna Sankalapam as prescribed in the vedas.
The CM performed 'Gau Puja' and offered harathi to kapila govu (holy cow).
Reddy then participated in the Akhanda Deeparadhana. Several religious scholars and peethadhipadhis were present at the Yagna sthali and witnessed the chief minister following the religious rituals.
They offered blessings to the chief minister after the Pujas and wished him the success in leading the state into prosperity. They peethadhipatis (seers) observed that organizing such Yagnas and Yagams would help bring good tidings to the state and help people living in peace and harmony.
