After Vietnam and Indonesia, Samsung is now bringing the Galaxy A24 to Malaysia. The low-cost phone is available for a little over $200, and early adopters get some extra goodies to go with their new phones. But at the same time, the company is also trying to be a bit sneaky with its description of the phone’s memory specifications.
The Galaxy A24 in Malaysia costs RM 999 ($223), and those who purchase the phone before May 31 get a 1-year extended warranty worth RM99 ($22) and a clear case worth RM79 ($17) for free. For its RM 999 price, the Galaxy A24 features 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, expandable via microSD by 1TB.
And, no, the phone doesn’t come with 16GB of RAM as the marketing material for Malaysia would have you believe. Samsung is a bit sneaky in this regard, and you’d have to read the fine print on the official announcement page to get the truth. Namely, the phone has 8GB of RAM, and users can repurpose up to 8GB of storage as virtual RAM for a total of 16GB using the built-in RAM Plus software tool.
The Galaxy A24 should benefit from great firmware support
You might not get 16GB of real RAM with your Galaxy A24, but what the phone should offer is fantastic firmware support. The A24 should be good for four major Android OS updates and up to five years of security patches. The phone ships with Android 13 and One UI 5.1, which means Samsung will update it with Android 17 a few years from now.
In Malaysia, the Galaxy A24 is available in dark red, light green, and black. Other specs include a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED 90Hz display, a MediaTek Helio G99 chip, and a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging capabilities. The cameras consist of a 50MP primary shooter with OIS and VDIS, an ultrawide 5MP sensor, a 2MP macro lens, and a 13MP selfie unit.
