Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis commented on the Supreme Court's verdict regarding the political crisis in the state, stating that the Speaker has been granted full rights and sufficient time to make a decision.
Fadnavis also added that anyone attempting to pressure the Speaker would be violating the principles of a fair and free process.
Earlier in the day, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar criticized Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde by saying that he will not step down as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on ethical grounds following the Supreme Court's verdict on last year's political crisis in the state.
Pawar added that the opposition MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi) alliance will consider its options regarding the disqualification of 16 MLAs during the assembly session in July.
"There is no need of demanding resignation from the current Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on moral grounds. We know he will not resign even in his dreams. There is a huge difference between former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the current people," Pawar told reporters.
The Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court pronounced the verdict on the Maharashtra political crisis on Thursday.
The five-judge Constitution bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices MR Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli, and PS Narasimha was dealing with the issue related to Maharashtra political crisis.
According to the Supreme Court's ruling on Thursday, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the former Governor of Maharashtra, was not justified in calling for a floor test based on the request of Eknath Shinde's faction. This is because there was insufficient objective material available to him to conclude that the then Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, had lost the confidence of the House.
"However, the floor test cannot be used as a medium to resolve internal party disputes or intra-party disputes. Dissent and disagreement within a political party must be resolved in accordance with the remedies prescribed under the party constitution, or through any other methods that the party chooses to opt for," the bench held.
The Supreme Court also emphasized that the Governor is the symbolic leader of the state government and holds a constitutional position with authority derived from the Constitution.
