Flying squad moves in to stop Canacona hill-cutting

Canacona: The hill-cutting with heavy machinery and tipper trucks, which was under way at Carroi-Mashem, Canacona, was stopped by a flying squad comprising the officers of the Canacona Town and Country Planning department, a talathi, and a Canacona police team on Thursday.
This area comes under the Loliem-Polem panchayat. The activity had been taking place for some time.
It is learnt that some NGOs and concerned residents had complained about this illegal activity, following which action was initiated.
Though Canacona police personnel were present to prevent any law and order situation, no complaint was made by the flying squad.
