PI, 5 others booked for cheating
Surat: The Tapi district police registered a complaint of cheating and forgery against six persons including police inspector Ashwin Khant, who is currently posted in Bhavnagar, following the order of a magisterial court in Vyara on Tuesday.
The complainant Abdul Jalilkhan Pathan (72), a resident of Bajipura, had approached the court after the police allegedly did not take action on his complaints since 2018. Pathan’s son Afzal is into black trap mining work in Kumbhiya village of Valod taluka in Tapi district.
Khant was a sub-inspector at Valod police station in 2018. Besides Khant, other accused include Jaydip Parmar, Faizal Zaveri, Ramesh Sangani, Harshal Bhalala and Jayesh Patel. “As directed by the court we have registered the offence and the investigation has been handed over to a sub-inspector. Earlier, there was no substantial evidence to register a case,” said Rahul Patel, SP, Tapi.
According to case details, Afzal had entered into a partnership with accused Zaveri in April 2011 for black trap crushing. Pathan alleged that Zaveri did not pay the partnership money. Instead of paying the money, Zaveri introduced other accused Sangani, Bhalala and Patel and told Afzal to do business with them to recover the money. But Afzal was allegedly cheated by the other accused too.
