Mangaluru: The Mangaluru city police have arrested four persons in connection with the stone pelting incident reported at Moodushedde on election day.
Punith,33, Nishanth Kumar,24, Rakesh,28, and Dinesh Kumar,30, all residents of Moodushedde, have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. “We are identifying others, and strict action will be taken against all persons involved in the incident,” said DCP (law and order) Anshu Kumar.
Five FIRs have been registered under various sections of the IPC. Prohibitory orders under CRPC Section 144 is imposed in Bajpe, Kavoor, Moodbidri, Surathkal and Mangaluru Rural police station limits, to maintain law and order, till 6am on Sunday.
On Wednesday late evening, a scuffle broke out between Congress and BJP workers, resulting in stone pelting, and four persons, including a policeman, suffered injuries. Bhanu Prakash, from the CAR unit of Mangaluru, sustained injuries when miscreants pelted stones at him.
PSI Revanasiddappa in a complaint stated, “Congress and BJP workers were holding soda bottles and stones, and had unlawfully gathered and were shouting slogans against each other at Moodushedde Junction.” When Revanasiddappa asked them to disburse, Puneeth, Harshith, Harishraj, Chethan, Pradeep Moodushedde, Rakesh, Prasad Malli, Sampath Shetty, Prakash Shetty, Sujay and others allegedly pushed the officer, and prevented him from discharging his duty.
In a separate complaint, Vasanth KV, the driver of the DCP’s vehicle, alleged that miscreants had damaged the car by pelting an interlock piece at it. The loss is estimated to be Rs 40,000.
