JAISALMER: Two cows in the district showed symptoms of the dreaded lumpy skin disease, whose samples have been sent for testing to Jodhpur and Bhopal. Also, 15 cows in Ajmer and 10 cows in Pali district have been found affected with the lumpy disease.
The animal husbandry department (AHD) has come on alert mode in the state and issued an advisory to its officers. Meanwhile, looking at the scarcity of vaccines in the districts, the officers have sent their demand to the government so that vaccination of cattle can be carried out.
In 2021 and 2022, as per government records, 76,030 cattle died of lumpy disease in Rajasthan. However, the actual number was much more.
Confirming the cases, animal husbandry department deputy director Ashok Suthar said that symptoms were seen in two cows and teams have been sent to check on them. As precaution medicines have been administered and cattle rearers were advised to keep the affected cows in isolation. Samples of both cows have been taken and sent to high security animal disease diagnostic laboratories in Jodhpur and Bhopal.
As per the present information it has been confirmed that 15 cows in Ajmer and 10 cows in Pali district are affected by the lumpy disease. Stocks of medicines are available. On the other hand, initial symptoms of lumpy disease were seen among the cows roaming in Jainarayan Vyas colony and police line Basti in Jaisalmer city.
