‘Plant walks Goa’, a group dedicated to promoting education as well as culinary use as regards wild food, and creating environmental awareness as well as promoting traditional folk medicine will organise an educational walk on May 16 along the banks of the Mandovi River near Panaji, as a part of a host of activities in the run up to the upcoming Mhadei Amchi Mai Festival, which is aimed at raising awareness about the importance of the river conservation.
The meeting point for the ‘Plants of Mhadei Walk: Know Your Shore Plants’ event is at the Miramar Beach in front of the circle promenade.
The event will be held between 7.30 a. m and 8.30 a. m, and introduce participants to various plant life and flora along the banks of the Mandovi River.
The walk will be led by Dr. Maryanne Lobo, co-founder of ‘Plant walks Goa’, and an Ayurvedic practitioner in Goa for last 19 years. A passionate nature and heritage lover, she has a deep connection with the Mhadei River from her childhood.
“The event aims to educate participants on the significance and importance of riparian ecology, how Mhadei River sustains these plants and explain linkages to soil erosion and climate change,” Dr Lobo informed.
The participants are encouraged to bring their colouring pens, sketchbooks and creativity to paint, journal or write a poem on their experience.
