BENGALURU: A 69-year-old woman died midair while flying back home to Bengaluru from the US.
Sources at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) said the woman had boarded flight AI 176 from San Francisco — the longest direct flight of
Air India from the US to Bengaluru — with her son on Tuesday.
“There was a medical emergency midair around 11pm on Wednesday. The crew provided all assistance, but the passenger died on board,” said an Air India official at the airport.
The pilots had alerted the airport authorities before the flight landed around 7.30am on Thursday. An ambulance took the woman’s body to the airport hospital, before it was transferred to a government hospital for an autopsy, airport sources said.
The woman had complained of uneasiness on the flight and is believed to have died of natural causes, the sources said.
