MKCG doctors repair rupture in large intestine

BERHAMPUR: Doctors at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here operated upon a patient from Kandhamal district on Wednesday night. The bicycle air-compressor pipe had got inserted into his anal canal and other abdominal organs.
The patient, Mrutunjay Patra (45) of Phulbani, was admitted to the medical college here on Tuesday evening in a serious condition with a three-centimetre rupture in the rectosigmoid junction of the large intestine. “We detected the ruptures after different investigations,” said Siba Prasad Dash, professor and head of the department of surgery.
Primary repair and closure of the ruptured intestine with right transverse loop colostomy was done. The patient is stable and is admitted to the ICU. The patient’s family member said the incident took place on Tuesday and they pulled out the pipe, but did not tell how it got inside his body. “The patient did not disclose the fact,” said Dash. “We have informed the Baidyanath Pur police about the incident,” said the doctor.
Recently, doctors surgically removed an iron rod stuck in the anus of a 17-year-old boy from Kandhamal district.
