Belagavi: Except for the death of an aged woman, and some other stray incidents, voting at all 4,439 polling stations in the 18 assembly constituencies in the district went off peacefully on Wednesday. According to deputy commissioner Nitesh Patil, the district recorded 76.16% voter turnout.
Paravva Ishwarappa Sidnal, 70, collapsed and died due to low blood pressure before voting. The incident happened when she entered polling station no. 48 in Yarzarvi village in Savadatti assembly constituency at 10.30am.
Meanwhile, a bridegroom exercised his right in a polling station before entering wedlock at Kangali Khurd village in Belagavi Rural constituency. Bharatesh Pralhad Jadhav’s wedding was scheduled on Wednesday. Before heading to the wedding hall, Bharatesh visited the polling station in his wedding attire and voted after standing in queue.
In Bailhongal, youths expressed anger against the Election Commission for deleting their names, especially in polling stations no.71 and 81 at Hosur Galli, from the voters list. They later complained to the local sector officer, who assured them of action against those who deleted the names of young voters.
Similarly, people in Hosa Vantamuri in Yamakanmaradi constituency expressed anger after more than 20 names were deleted from the voters list.
Due to an error in the EVMs, voting was stopped in several polling stations including Kittur, Ankale, Mudalagi, Nesaragi, Kadrolli, Devgaon, Ulligeri, Nandagad, Galataga, Athani etc. Voting resumed after rectification.
