VADODARA: Four workers were injured when a part of the structure of the pilgrim shelter whose dome had collapsed on May 4 leaving a woman dead fell on them in Pavagadh hill in Panchmahal district on Thursday night.

A dome on the pilgrim shelter had collapsed on May 4 during heavy rains on the Pavagadh mountain. The incident left a woman dead and eight others injured.

The shelter was constructed about a year-and-a-half back as part of the Pavagadh development plan. The shelter is located at Maachi on the mountain. The Mahakali Temple – one of the Shaktipiths – is located on the top of the mountain.
An official said that a decision had been taken after the May 4 incident to bring down the remaining portion of the shelter. It was during this process that a part of the shelter collapsed on some workers on Thursday night.
The injured persons include four male workers. “One of the workers had minor injuries while the three others had serious would including fractures. One of the three also had injuries on his face and near the eye. These three have been rushed to a private hospital in Vadodara for treatment,” said an official.
The official added that the work was being conducted in the night as the rush of pilgrims was less at this time. This facilitated movement of machinery as well as ensured that the work did not pose any risk to the pilgrims.
