Worker (40) injured as fire breaks out in garments unit
Noida: A 40-year-old man suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out in a garments factory in Noida’s Sector 8 on Wednesday noon. The fire officer said the blaze started as a result of a short circuit in the motor pump of an air cooler kept in a tin shed on the terrace
“It was found that the fire had broken out at a tin shed made on the terrace of the factory to keep the scrapped fabric,” said Pradeep K Chaubey, the chief fire officer (CFO) of Gautam Budh Nagar.
Fire officers said they received information about the incident around 12.22pm and within half an hour, two fire tenders reached the spot. It took around 15 minutes to douse the flames and the injured worker was rushed to a government hospital.
“Around 40 factory workers were present inside the factory when the fire started. All were working on the ground floor, but the fire had not reached there. One of the factory workers, who was on the terrace at the time, tried to extinguish the fire. The 40-year-old Arjun suffered minor burns. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was given first aid and discharged. During the investigation, it was found that the fire was caused by a short circuit in an air cooler kept on the terrace. Since the fabric scraps kept in the vicinity were of inflammable material, the pile immediately caught fire and spread,” Chaubey informed TOI.
No other injuries or losses of property were reported in the incident.
