Maggie and Negan unite in The Walking Dead: Dead City’s new trailer

Anyone who has ever watched The Walking Dead probably knows why the premise of the upcoming spinoff miniseries, The Walking Dead: Dead City, is more than a little bit flimsy. That’s because it pairs Maggie Rhees (Lauren Cohan) with the man who murdered her husband, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). And despite Negan’s efforts to reform, Maggie has never entirely let go of that grudge. But in the new trailer for Dead City, it appears that their reunion is not a coincidence. Someone from Negan’s past is luring him into a trap, and he’s using Maggie to set the bait.

Who is the mutual enemy of both Maggie and Negan? For now, all we know is that he is called The Croat (Željko Ivanek), and that he personally led the raid where Maggie’s son, Hershel (Logan Kim), was kidnapped. It’s not clear how Maggie made the link between Negan and The Croat, but she does strong-arm her former adversary into accompanying her into Manhattan, which remains hopelessly overrun by zombie hordes.

Regardless, there are some human survivors in Manhattan who are sympathetic toward Maggie and Negan’s shared mission. There are also plenty of adversaries, as well as some truly horrifying new walkers. In this trailer alone, multiple walkers appear to have fused into an even bigger zombie with multiple limbs. It’s by far the scariest-looking walker that the franchise has produced in a long time.

Gaius Charles co-stars in the six-episode event miniseries as Perlie Armstrong, with Jonathan Higginbotham as Tommaso, Mahina Napoleon as Ginny, Trey Santiago-Hudson as Jano, Charlie Solis as The Bartender, and Michael Anthony as Luther.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, June 18.

New in theaters: The Lost City, Everything Everywhere All At Once
new movies preview march 25 2022 lost city michelle yeoh

After reigning at the box office for nearly three months thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home and Uncharted, Tom Holland encountered a foe that even he couldn't beat on March 4: Batman. Warner Bros. unleashed the latest iteration of one of its most valuable characters with Matt Reeves' The Batman. In a rare move, no rival studio launched a wide-release movie that weekend or the next, with all of Hollywood anticipating (and hoping) the Dark Knight can pump as much cash into the industry as his Marvel counterpart did in December. So far, The Batman has made over a half-billion at the box office, so the industry once again appears to be on the road to recovery.

This weekend, there are other movies being released in theaters that target different audiences. Sandra Bullock teams with Channing Tatum in a 21st-century update of Romancing the Stone, and Michelle Yeoh kicks butt in multiple realities. It's all part of an ongoing process that Hollywood hopes will get the box office back to where it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Giancarlo Esposito will star in new AMC series, The Driver
Black Noir in The Boys

In 2009, Giancarlo Esposito made an immediate impression as drug lord Gus Fring on AMC's Breaking Bad, and he's been a staple on the network ever since. Esposito also reprised his role as Fring for Better Call Saul. But now that the Breaking Bad prequel series is set to end this year, Esposito will finally headline his own AMC drama.

Via Deadline, Esposito will star in The Driver, a remake of a BBC One miniseries that originally featured David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) in the title role. Esposito will portray a cab driver "whose life is turned upside down when he agrees to chauffer a New Orleans-based Zimbabwean gangster notorious for exploiting undocumented immigrants at the U.S. southern ports."

AMC lines up a new Walking Dead spinoff for Negan and Maggie
Negan and Maggie in The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead will come to an end after 11 seasons later this year. However, two of the primary leads will live on. AMC has announced a new Walking Dead spinoff, The Walking Dead: Isle of the Dead, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan reprising their respective roles as Negan and Maggie.

However, Maggie and Negan don't exactly have a close relationship on the show. Warning, spoilers follow: The first time they met, Negan murdered Maggie's husband, Glenn. In recent seasons, Negan has reformed and aligned himself with the survivors at Alexandria. Naturally, Maggie has never forgiven Negan, but they have been able to work together on occasion. In Isle of the Dead, the unlikely duo will go someplace where TWD hasn't explored before: New York City.
