Hyderabad: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized two kilo gold from a smuggler at RGI Airport on Tuesday. The purity of the gold was 99.5 per cent and its value is 1.3 crore.
Acting on specific information, a DRI team intercepted a passenger intended to travel from Hyderabad to Chennai on Tuesday at RGI Airport in possession of six capsules containing gold paste weighing two kg.
During the investigation, DRI team found out that the gold capsules were handed over to the accused by an international transit passenger at the airport through a small gap between the wall and the glass panel separating the international departure area and domestic departure area.
“We seized the gold and the passenger involved in smuggling activity has been arrested under the Customs Act. He was produced before the court and sent in judicial remand,” said a DRI official. TNN
