JAIPUR: The Jaipur police on Wednesday arrested a 56-year-old woman for allegedly threatening a 74-year-old businessman to implicate him in a rape case if her did not pay Rs 1 crore.
Additional DCP (North) Dharmendra Sagar said that a team from Bhatta Basti police station arrested the woman identified as Nisha Sharma. “The elderly businessman had already paid the accused Rs 40 lakh in different tranches. A few days ago, she asked him to give her Rs 1 crore,” Sagar said.
Police said that the businessman on Tuesday went to the Bhatta Basti police station where he narrated his ordeal and sought help from the police. “We arrested the accused when she had come to take the amount of Rs 5 lakh,” Sagar said.
Police said that the victim claimed that he was a heart patient, and the woman was trying to blackmail him for a very long time.
“She had met the victim a few months ago and began blackmailing him that his reputation will be ruined forever if he fails to cough up money. The victim claimed that he paid the accused Rs 40 lakh, but her demands kept rising,” an official said.
Police said that the victim told Sharma that he had already paid Rs 40 lakh and would not be blackmailed again. “The accused replied to him that he would face a lot of problems if her demands were not met,” the official said.
Police also said that they have recovered an audio recording of the woman wherein she can be heard threatening the victim. “We have taken her on remand for two days. The accused will be interrogated to check whether she had threatened other persons,” Sagar said.
