'If we work together, there will be support ... ': Sharad Pawar, Nitish Kumar hold talks for united opposition
NEW DELHI: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, who wants opposition parties to unite ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections, on Thursday met NCP chief Sharad Pawar. The two leaders stressed the need for the opposition to come together in the interest of the nation.
"After looking at the condition of the country, it seems that if we work together, there will be support for the alternative that the country needs. Yesterday, there was a Karnataka poll. As per my information, people there will oust BJP and elect a secular govt," Sharad Pawar said after the meeting.
Nitish Kumar alleged that the BJP was not working in the interest of the country. "The more opposition parties come together, the better it will be in the interest of the nation. We have spoken with several political parties. We will set together and take further decisions," the Bihar chief minister said.
When asked if Sharad Pawar will be the main face of the opposition alliance, Nitish Kumar said, "There will be nothing more delightful than that ... I have told him that he has to work strongly not only for his party but for the entire country."
Earlier today, Nitish Kumar and Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav met Uddhav Thackeray at the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader's residence in Mumbai.
"When everyone fights together, there will be a contest (with BJP). There will be good success (to opposition parties) and the country will head in the right direction," Nitish said after the meeting.
"Our objective is the same ... to work in the interest of the country,” he said and added, "There should be no dispute and everyone should stay united."
