NEW DELHI: The city saw a slight drop in the maximum temperature on Wednesday. The weather department expects the mercury to soar over the next two days. It is likely to reach 42 degrees Celsius by Saturday.
On Wednesday, the maximum temperature was 36.7 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal, against 37.2 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The minimum temperature was 20.9 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal, against 20.7 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The humidity levels oscillated between 61% and 23%.
The maximum and minimum temperatures on Thursday are likely to hover around 38 and 22 degrees Celsius, respectively. "The maximum temperature is likely to cross the 40 degrees mark by Friday and may reach 42 by Saturday," said an official from IMD.
The city's air quality slipped to "poor" category on Wednesday. The air quality index was 203 against 197 a day earlier.
