Maharashtra Political Crisis LIVE: The Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court pronounced the verdict on the Maharashtra political crisis today i.e. on 11 May. The five-judge Constitution bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices MR Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli, and PS Narasimha was dealing with the issue related to Maharashtra political crisis. The Supreme Court Thursday held the Maharashtra governor was not justified in calling upon then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray to prove majority in the Assembly on June 30 last year but refused to order status quo ante, saying he did not face the floor test and resigned. Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said nobody should dount that the Maharashtra government is completely legal. “Today, Maha Vikas Aghadi's (MVA) conspiracy has been defeated. Now, no one should doubt that the Maharashtra government is completely legal," he said.

After the SC verdict, Uddhav Thackeray said “If the current Maharashtra CM and deputy CM have any ethics, then they should resign." Shortly after the Supreme Court pronounced its judgment on the Shiv Sena-centric political crisis in Maharashtra, Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena (UBT) said if the top court has observed that Sunil Prabhu of Uddhav Thackeray faction of Sena remains the official whip, then as per its observation, 16 rebel MLAs, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, stand disqualified.
He said Speaker Rahul Narwekar cannot follow the official whip. Raut also asserted that since the process of formation of the government was illegal, the Shinde government is illegal.
“Sunil Prabhu remains the official whip of Shiv Sena as per SC's observations, so rebel MLAs stand disqualified," Raut said.

The Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court on 11 May said that the Speaker's decision to appoint Gogawale (Shinde group) as chief Whip of the Shiv Sena party was illegal.
Commenting on the SC order, AAP's SAnjay Singh said, "The appointment of Chief Whip in Maharashtra is a wrong decision taken by him. On the basis of morality, the Shinde government should resign immediately."

Maharashtra minister Uday Samant on Thursday said it is a merely a coincidence that state NCP president Jayant Patil has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case ahead of the Supreme Court's verdict on petitions pertaining to the 2022 political crisis in the state. Asked about Patil getting summons from the ED ahead of the SC verdict, state Industries Minister Samant told reporters, “It is merely a coincidence."
The ED has summoned 61-year-old MLA Patil, the former state finance and home minister, for questioning on Friday in a money laundering case linked to alleged financial irregularities in the now bankrupt IL&FS, as per official sources.

The SC will pronouce its verdict on the disqualification of 16 'rebel Shiv Sena MLAs belonging to the current Maharashtra CM's faction. The case pertains to on a batch of pleas including one seeking disqualification of 16 Shiv Sena MLAs (of Shinde's party) who revolted against the Thackeray leadership.
Later in February, the The Election Commission of India gave team Eknath Shinde the "bow and arrow" symbol and allowed to keep the name "Shiv Sena". Apart from this, the ECI awarded rival Uddhav Thackeray faction the name "Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray" and the "flaming torch" symbol.
Eknath Shinde and 39 MLAs had walked out and revolted against the leadership of the Shiv Sena, leading to a split in the party and the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, which was led by Uddhav Thackeray and also included the NCP and Congress. Afterwards, Shinde formed a coalition government in Maharashtra with the BJP. On June 30, 2022, Shinde was appointed as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and Devendra Fadnavis from the BJP was appointed as his deputy. The Shinde and Thackeray factions of the Sena have been locked in a battle since then. After he was appointed as the new CM of Maharashtra, Shinde was put on floor test which he won in the Maharashtra legislative assembly with 164 votes polled in favour of him, 99 against. If Eknath Shinde is disqualified, then he will have to resign as Maharashtra Chief Minister and his government will be disbanded.
