Nine students experience side effects after tetanus vaccination in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: Nine girl students of a government senior secondary school in Machhiwara area of Ludhiana “suffered” side effects after they were administered tetanus vaccine at the school.
As per the health department officials, seven to eight such students have been kept under observation.
As per the reports, as part of weekly vaccination drive, a team of healthcare workers had visited the school to get students vaccinated for tetanus.
Local sources said that as more than 150 girl students were administered the vaccine, some of them started experiencing dizziness and weakness after that. They added that there was a panic after seeing the condition of the girls deteriorating and they were immediately brought to the Community Health Centre, where a team of doctors started treating them.
Talking to TOI, child specialist Dr Rishabh Dutt, said that about 175 girl students, were admitted tetanus vaccine as part of the weekly routine vaccine drive of which nine students had minor side effects like anusea, dizziness and headache and as the school is near to CHC so they were brought to health centre by their teachers. He added that of the students seven to eight students were kept under observation and were kept on watch.
Child specialist suggested that as the vitals of students are fine, some have been discharged and remaining are also being discharged from health centre.
