Controversial film The Kerala Story has been making headlines recently, with mixed reactions and calls for a ban. Despite this, the film has seen success at the box office, earning 8 crore on its opening day and growing even more by May 10, with a total collection of 68.86 crore.

Directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, The Kerala Story stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in the lead roles. The film has faced criticism for claiming that 32,000 girls from Kerala state went missing and later joined ISIS, but the makers later withdrew the figure and called the movie the story of three women from Kerala in its trailer description.

Amid the backlash, Adah Sharma, who plays one of the lead characters, has taken to Twitter to thank the "crores" of people who have watched the film and made it trend internationally in 37 countries. She also thanked those who appreciated her performance.

“Thank you to all the crores of you who are going to watch our film, thank you for making it trend, thank you for loving my performance. This weekend the 12th #TheKeralaStory releases internationally in 37 countries (or more)." she tweeted.

Responding to the tweet, one person congratulated Sharma on doing justice to her role while another said that the film had shown great courage to bring reality to the public domain. Meanwhile, Sharma herself shared a tweet in response to the criticism, stating that "sometimes the most unlikely person can alter the course of history".

The controversy has even led to a ban on the screening of the film in the state of West Bengal, with chief minister Mamata Banerjee citing the need to avoid "any incident of hatred and violence".

Despite the ban, The Kerala Story continues to draw audiences and spark debate. With its success at the box office and mixed reactions from viewers, it remains a topic of interest in Indian cinema.
