Kerala minister Roshi Augustine promises clean water to all rural houses soon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Water resources minister Roshi Augustine has said that by 2024-25 the state government will ensure clean water to all rural houses in Kerala. He was speaking while inaugurating the construction of the Karavaram, Nagaroor and Pulimath comprehensive drinking water project.
The minister added that the government has provided drinking water to 35 lakh families in the last two years.
The comprehensive drinking water project has been conceived to permanently solve the drinking water shortage in Nagaroor, Pulimath and Karavaram panchayats. KIIFB will provide Rs 81.81 crore for the implementation of the first phase of the project while Jal Jeevan Mission will provide Rs 89.17 crore for the second phase.
The first and second phase works include a well, raw water pumping main, a modern water treatment plant with 18 MLD capacity, ground and surface water reservoirs, main aqueducts connecting these and a 430 km water distribution network in Vamanapuram river. The project also includes activities to provide 15,438 drinking water connections.
O S Ambika MLA presided over the function held at Nagaroor Junction. Kilimanoor block panchayat president BP Murali, Nagaroor panchayat president D Smitha, Pulimath panchayat president G Shanthakumari, Karavaram panchayat president Shibulal were also present on the occasion.
