Asked if Pawar will be the main face of the opposition alliance, Kumar said, "There will be nothing more delightful than that. I have told him that he has to work with more vigour not only for his party but for the entire country." The more opposition parties come together, the better it is in the interest of the country, Kumar said. Pawar said, "To save democracy, it is important to work together. Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde has earned a certificate for a diploma course in journalism and mass communication from the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), the varsity said in a release. Shinde completed the diploma course with distinction by scoring 77.25 per cent marks in August 2021, it said. (PTI)
The NIA has seized incriminating material after conducting searches at six places in Mumbai in connection with a case of seizure of high quality fake currency notes from neighbouring Thane, and it said the role of 'D-company' has prima facie been established in the circulation of such notes. The Thane police crime branch seized fake currency notes of Rs 2.98 lakh face value in November 2021. During the investigation into the case, the "role of 'D-Company' has been prima facie been established in the circulation of the fake notes in India," the NIA said in a statement on Thursday. (PTI)
If more opposition parties work together and stand united, it will yield a good result while taking on the BJP in the next Lok Sabha polls, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said in Mumbai on Thursday. Nitish Kumar, who along with Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav met Uddhav Thackeray at the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader's residence in Mumbai, was speaking to reporters. "When everyone fights together, there will be a contest (with BJP). There will be good success (to opposition parties) and the country will head in the right direction," Kumar said. Kumar said the opposition parties will decide when their next meeting will take place. "Our objective is the same...to work in the interest of the country," he said. "There should be no dispute and everyone should stay united," Kumar added. His meeting with Uddhav Thackeray is being seen as a bid to strengthen the Opposition unity ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The Janata Dal (United) leader will also meet Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai later in the day. Kumar has been meeting Opposition leaders to strengthen the bloc against the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls due next year. He met his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday in Bhubaneswar. Kumar, who stunned the BJP last year when he snapped ties and stripped it of power in Bihar, had caught the national imagination with his pitch for a "united opposition" which, he believes, can take on and defeat the BJP in next year's Lok Sabha polls. Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned NCP leader and former minister Jayant Patil in a money laundering case pertaining to the Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS).Patil has been asked to appear before the law enforcement agency on Friday to record his statement. Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 154 fresh coronavirus cases, while one more patient succumbed to the infection in the state, which saw nearly 300 recoveries, the health department said. With these additions, the state's Covid-19 tally rose to 81,67,947 and the toll increased to 1,48,541, the department said in a bulletin. Mumbai detected 47 patients in the last 24 hours.

IOB ex-DGM gets 1-year RI; was convicted last month too
Eight years after a complaint was filed, a special CBI court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a former deputy general manager (DGM) of Indian Overseas Bank to one-year rigorous imprisonment for facilitating the dishonest sanction and disbursementof a Rs 11 crore corporate and car loan to a Powai company, Anytime India Fitness Pvt Ltd, in 2011.Lalbaug resident Pradeep Kumar Saha was also fined Rs 5 lakh. This is his second such conviction in a month. The company was also fined Rs 25 lakh.
