FDA Begins Allowing More Gay, Bisexual Men to Donate Blood

Agency updates blood-donation policy; same set of screening questions for all blood donors

New rules from the Food and Drug Administration that will allow more gay and bisexual men to donate blood are now final.

The agency on Thursday finalized the guidelines proposed earlier this year that would create the same set of screening questions for all blood donors, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation. The Wall Street Journal first reported the agency’s plans last November.
