And after yet another victory, team principal Christian Horner questioned why his team aren’t being challenged by the rest of the grid.

Horner said: "Five races, five wins plus the sprint, and four one-two finishes - we've never had a start like this and we're kind of wondering 'where are the others?’

"We've made a normal step, we think, over the winter, and it's more 'where did Ferrari and Mercedes go?'”

Emilia Romagna Grand Prix: What has been said?

Mercedes will be introducing some upgrades to their car ahead of the race weekend but Lewis Hamilton is not expecting a huge difference to their performance.

When asked what the upgrades will bring, Hamilton said: "Well, it’s a bit of an unknown.

"It’s not like I have a one-second upgrade coming, which is what I need, but it’s something. It’s a step in the right direction, hopefully, for us to really be able to progress."

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff was also keen to ease expectations ahead of the changes.

He said: "We have to be careful that we have our expectations under control.

"I don’t think we’ll get there and suddenly we’re half a second faster and in the middle of a fight.

“We won’t, but we are now laying a new foundation and at least taking some issues off the table that we believe are contributing to us being too slow.”
