Vadodara: Watching reels on
Instagram, 11-year-old twin sisters from the city came across a video of cancer patients who had lost their hair and got curious. Yati and Yashvi asked their mother Mital Pandya about the disease and why cancer patients lose hair.
“When I explained to them about the deadly disease, they immediately asked if they could donate their hair for such cancer patients. Both Yati and Yashvi have long hair but didn’t think even for a moment before deciding to trim their locks,” Pandya told TOI.
The woman then searched online for hair donation and came across an NGO, Vadodara Hair Donation, which faciliates the process.
Yati donated 15 inches of her hair, while Yashvi donated 12 inches. “Cancer patients, who take chemotherapy, face side-effects like severe hair loss. This hurts their self-esteem forcing them to stay indoors. From the hairs donated to us, wigs are made for such patients,” said Harshal Thakkar, a member of the NGO.
Vadodara Hair Donation has till date collected hairs from more than 100 donors and helped several cancer patients.
