RAJKOT: In a bizarre incident, a 30-year-old man mercilessly strangled his wife and later walked into the police station to surrender, unaware that his murder bid had failed.
The incident was reported in Talaja police station near Bhavnagar on May 7 when the accused Ramdevsinh Sarvaiyya walked in and nonchalantly informed that he had killed his wife Shilpa. Cops immediately took him along and rushed to his house in Juna Sangana village and saw her unconscious.
Shilpa was rushed to the hospital and Sarvaiyya was booked for attempt to murder following a complaint lodged by her brother Ajaysinh Jadeja. Jadeja also registered a complaint of domestic violence against Sarvaiyya, his brother Jaydeep and his mother Dhrupatba.
AR Valal police inspector of Talaja police station said, “Sarvaiya walked into the police station on the morning of May 7 saying that he killed his wife after a bitter spat over some domestic issue. But the woman fortunately survived.”
The victim’s family was called from their native village of Dhrol taluka in Jamnagar district. They spoke with her after she regained consciousness and thereafter registered a complaint on Monday.
Shilpa’s family alleged she was tortured by her husband and in-laws ever since they got married four years ago. Fed up with the harassment, she had returned to her parental house two months ago but returned after a truce was struck.
