The Joe Deters endorsement sparked more than an hourlong debate among Republicans of the Ohio GOP Central Committee.

Hello! I am Carl Weiser, government, politics and business editor for The Enquirer. You have heard from politics reporter Scott Wartman a lot recently, so I decided to jump in and discuss an important story he is working on.

Republicans across the state met last week in Columbus to endorse a slate of candidates for Ohio Supreme Court. One candidate in particular sparked debate and opposition: former Hamilton County prosecutor Joe Deters.

Gov. Mike DeWine appointed Deters, a longtime family friend, to the Supreme Court at the beginning of the year – an unusual move, as Scott reported earlier. Not all Republicans are as enthusiastic about Deters, with one calling the endorsement an "atrocity."

Scott reported on the GOP hubbub here.
