ISLAMABAD, Pakistan—Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan appeared before a judge Wednesday, officials said, after his arrest on corruption charges this week triggered violent protests and government calls for the army to deploy.

Authorities are seeking to extend Mr. Khan’s detention on corruption charges and said Wednesday’s hearing took place at a police compound on the outskirts of the capital Islamabad to avoid further clashes.
